Prostitution in the UK, and 'The First Time', by Kevin Morris.

The purpose of this post is to provide context regarding the environment in which Becky, an escort girl in my story, The First Time operates.
In the United Kingdom (which is where the story takes place) prostitution is not illegal, however many of the activities associated with prostitution are prohibited by law. It is legal for one person to work from a flat or other premises as a prostitute, however where more than one individual works the premises is classified as a brothel and those working there are doing so illegally.
In the UK working as an out-call escort (as Becky and her friend Julie) do is not illegal. Consequently when Becky visits Mike in his home and provides a sexual service neither she nor Mike are breaking the law.
It is illegal in the UK  to “control” prostitution and to be convicted of doing so is likely to result in imprisonment. At Becky’s request her friend, Julie introduces her to Mike. Could this be viewed as Julie “controlling” prostitution? Perhaps so.
While the age of consent in the UK for both hetrosexual and homosexual relations is 16, it is illegal to pay for sex with a person who is under the age of 18 so sex with a 16-year-old is legal but to pay for sexual services with that same person is against the law. Both Becky and Julie are in their early twenties so the age of consent issue does not arise.
